1. Wettbewerb

Am Wettbewerb fuer den transmediale award 2006 haben sich 1001 Kuenstler und
Kuenstlerinnen aus 52 Laendern beteiligt. Die Nominierungen wurden von einer
internationalen Jury ausgesprochen, bestehend aus Kazunao Abe (Japan), Marcos
Boffa (Brasilien), Honor Harger (England), Christian Huebler (Schweiz) und
Nuria Enguita Mayo (Spanien), die eine Vorauswahl von sechs Arbeiten getroffen
haben. Weitere fuenf Arbeiten wurden lobend erwaehnt. Der transmediale award
wird am 6. Februar 2006 in einer feierlichen Preisverleihung von den Gewinnern
entgegengenommen.

2. Roermond-Ecke-Schoenhauser

Markus Kison (de) - 'Roermond-Ecke-Schoenhauser'
Webcams zeichnen eine Flut von Bildern auf, die niemand verarbeiten kann. Markus
Kison hat vier Webcams in Kopenhagen, Amsterdam, Berlin und Roermond ausfindig
gemacht und sie mithilfe einer besonderen Spiegelkonstruktion und plastischen
Modellen zu filmischen 3D-Installationen nachgebaut. Die virtuelle Existenz
dieser fernen Orte verwandelt sich auf diese Weise in eine materielle - zum
Anfassen nah.

3. Eisbergsonde

Agnes Meyer-Brandis (de) - 'Eisberg-Sonde / SGM-Iceberg-Probe'
Agnes Meyer-Brandis hat eine ueberraschende Entdeckung gemacht: Unter den
Eislaufhallen Deutschlands gibt es unterirdische Eisbergvorkommen! Diese
geologische Sensation erforscht sie mit ihrer 'SGM-Eisberg-Sonde' und einem
mobilen Bohrloch. Die simulierte Sondentauchfahrt in 120m Tiefe zeigt eine
Mischung aus real existierenden Aufnahmen von antarktischen Eisbohrloechern und
fiktiven Bewegtbildern in Echtzeit auf einem externen Monitor.

4. Vexations

Yuko Mohri, Soichiro Mihara (jp) - 'Vexations - Composition in Progress'
Das Stueck 'Vexations' von Erik Satie soll das laengste aller Musikstuecke sein
und den Beginn der minimal music markieren. Yuko Mohri und Soichiro Mihara
benutzen es, um verschiedene Installationsraeume als Sound Medium zu gestalten:
Jedes Geraeusch, das die Besucher im Ausstellungsraum aeussern, wird von einem
Mikrofon aufgenommen, in eine Mididatei umgewandelt und als Klavierton
wiedergegeben. Ueber den Ausstellungszeitraum hinweg entsteht aus dem bekannten
Thema von Satie ein vollkommen neues Musikstueck.

Platoniq (es) - 'Burn Station'
'Burn Station' ist eine mobile Kopierstation, mit der man sich Musik- und
Audiodaten anhoeren, heraussuchen und kostenlos vervielfaeltigen kann - und das
auch noch voellig legal, denn das nicht-kommerzielle Projekt funktioniert nach
den neuesten Bestimmungen zum freien Vertrieb von Audiofiles im Internet. Der
soziale Faktor und die Idee des Internets als ein Gemeinwesen liegt den
Kuenstlern, Aktivisten der Copyleft-Bewegung, besonders am Herzen.

6. Punkt und Linie zu Flaeche

Andres Ramirez Gaviria (co/at) - '-/'
Dieses sechsminuetige Video benutzt Morsecodes, um die Angaben aus dem Index des
1926 erschienen Buches 'Punkt und Linie zu Flaeche' von Wassily Kandinsky
audiovisuell darzustellen. Abstrakte Elemente wie Linie, Flaeche und Form
werden mit den konstruierten Bedeutungen der Morsecodes verbunden und eroeffnen
eine neue Lesart von Kandinskys Text.

Ubermorgen.com hat Google den Kampf angesagt: Mit dem Geld, das sie von Google
fuer Werbefenster auf Internet-Seiten erhalten, kaufen sie Aktienanteile der
Firma, die mittlerweile mehr wert ist als alle Schweizer Banken zusammen. Das
Ziel: durch die Schwachstelle im click-basierten Werbesystem das Unternehmen zu
uebernehmen - finanziert mit deren eigenen Geldern.

1. Competition

1001 artists from 52 countries applied for the transmediale award 2006. An
international jury, composed of Kazunao Abe (Japan), Marcos Boffa (Brasil),
Honor Harger (England), Christian Huebler (Switzerland) and Nuria Enguita Mayo
(Spain), announced a shortlist of six works. Five other works received an
honourable mention. The prizes will be awarded in a ceremony on February 6th,
2006.

2. Roermond-Ecke-Schoenhauser

Markus Kison (de) - 'Roermond-Ecke-Schoenhauser'
Webcams record inconceivable amounts of images and data. Markus Kison found four
webcams in Kopenhagen, Amsterdam, Berlin and Roermond and uses them for his
3D-installation. Through a special mirror construction the images are projected
onto architectural models. The virtual existence of distant places becomes
almost real - close enough to touch.

3. Eisbergsonde

Agnes Meyer-Brandis (de) - 'Eisberg-Sonde / SGM-Iceberg-Probe'
Agnes Meyer-Brandis has made a surprising discovery: there are subterranian
icebergs underneath Germany's Ice-Scating Halls! The artist explores this
geological sensation with her SGM-Iceberg-Probe and a mobile drill hole. The
probe simulates a dive into 120 meter's depth displaying, on an external
monitor, a mixture of images from real antarctic holes and virtual ones
generated in real time.

4. Vexations

Yuko Mohri, Soichiro Mihara (jp) - 'Vexations - Composition in Progress'
Erik Satie's piece 'Vexations' is said to be the longest composition, and the
origin of minimal music. Yuko Mohri and Soichiro Mihara use Satie's piece to
create an installation room as a sound medium. Together with the first
'Vexations'-theme, every sound made in this room is recorded, transformed into
data, and played back as piano notes. In the course of the exhibition's
duration, Satie's theme is transformed into a totally new, ever-evolving piece
of music.

5. Burn Station

Platoniq (es) - 'Burn Station'
'Burn Station' is a mobile self-service for searching, listening to and copying
music and audio files with no charge. Moreover it is completely legal, released
under an open licence, and non-commercial. The social application of technology
and the idea of the internet as commons are of major concern by platoniq's
members, activists of the copyleft movement.

6. Point and Line to Plane

Andres Ramirez Gaviria (co/at) - '-/'
Ramirez' six minute video uses Morse code to visualize and sonify a section of
the index from the book 'Point and Line to Plane', written by Wassily Kandinsky
in 1926. The project interpolates abstract aesthetic elements (e.g. line, plane,
form) with the informational space constructed in the Morse code translation.
For Ramirez Gaviria, this is a way to invert the commonly known method of
narration in audio-visual media.

Ubermorgen.com feat. Alessandro Ludovico vs. Paolo Cirio (at/it) -
'GWEI - Google will eat itself'
Ubermorgen declared war on Google: They generate money by serving Google text
advertisements on their websites, technically deconstructing the new global
advertisement mechanism by rendering it into a surreal click-based economic
model. In order to take over and gain control of Google in due time, Ubermorgen
use Google's pay checks to buy the company's shares, whose value currently sums
up to more than all Swiss Banks together...
