Medieninstallation SPOTS präsentiert Sonderbespielung zur transmediale.06

     * »Sensor« von Carsten Nicolai reflektiert Bewegung, Dichte und
Frequenz des Stadtraumes

Während der transmediale.06 präsentiert die Medieninstallation SPOTS
eine Sonderbespielung mit Arbeiten international bekannter Künstler.
Die Bespielung ist Teil der laufenden Ausstellung »Die Stadt hat
Augen«, die sich mit der Möglichkeit auseinandersetzt, dass die Stadt
zum Beobachter des urbanen Lebens wird. Kuratiert wird die
Ausstellung von Dr. Andreas Broeckmann, dem künstlerischen Leiter der
transmediale.

bis zum 02.02.2006: »Gait Studies in Low Resolution« von Jim Campbell
Für »Gait Studies in Low Resolution« hat der amerikanische
Medienkünstler Jim Campbell mehrere figurative Sequenzen entwickelt,
die Menschen in verschiedenen Bewegungen und Situationen darstellen.
Die visuellen Effekte werden beim Blick durch eine Plexiglasscheibe,
die am südlichen S-Bahnausgang installiert ist, verstärkt, weil die
Pixel der Medienfassade zu einem glatten diffusen Bild verschmelzen.

03.02.2006: »33 Questions per Minute« von Rafael Lozano-Hemmer
Bei »33 Questions per Minute« (33QPM), Relational Architecture 5" des
mexikanisch-kanadischen Künstlers Rafael Lozano-Hemmer in
Zusammenarbeit mit dem Programmierer Conroy Badger werden pro Minute
33 Fragen angezeigt. Der Computer ruft die Fragen selbst aus einem
schier unendlichen Fundus an Satzfragmenten auf und vermischt
menschliche Neugier mit pur maschineller, oft unsinniger
Wortkombination. Die Software kann 55 Milliarden Fragen in Deutsch,
Englisch und Spanisch erzeugen.

04.02.2006: »Skala« von realities:united / John deKron
»Skala«, eine Arbeit des Kunst- und Architekturbüros realities:united
und John deKron, überlagert die repräsentative Architektur des
Potsdamer Platzes mit Bildern einer privaten Wirklichkeit. »Skala«
beschäftigt sich damit, wie medial gestaltete Gebäudeoberflächen und
deren Bilder die Gestaltungsmöglichkeiten von Architektur erweitern
und den öffentlichen Raum verändern können.

5.02.2006: »Sensor« von Carsten Nicolai
Carsten Nicolai erarbeitete sein Werk »Sensor« gemeinsam mit dem
Softwareentwickler John deKron. »Sensor« ist eine Visualisierung, die
sich durch Umweltsensoren in der Fassade permanent neu gestaltet. Die
Sensoren beobachten den Potsdamer Platz, seine Besucherdichte,
analysieren die Tageszeit, Helligkeit, Lautstärke und
Lautstärkendynamik und können verschiedene Infrarotsignale empfangen.
Diese Parameter bestimmen die Überlagerung von Lichtverläufen und
generieren so eine komplexe Lichtmodulation, die die Fassade zum
Spiegelbild der Stadt werden lässt.

Licht- und Medienfassade SPOTS
Die Licht- und Medieninstallation SPOTS ist eine Initiative der HVB
Immobilien AG. Sie wurde von den Architekten Tim und Jan Edler von
realities:united entworfen und realisiert. Die Idee stammt von Marc
Fiedler, Cafè Palermo Pubblicitá.

SPOTS media installation presents special exhibit for the transmediale.06

deKron, Carsten Nicolai
     * »Sensor« by Carsten Nicolai reflects movement, density and
frequency of the cityscape

During the transmediale.06, the SPOTS media installation will present
a special series of exhibits featuring works by artists of
international renown. The exhibits are part of the ongoing »City
Gaze« exhibition, which engages with the possibility that the city
itself can become a seeing object, an observer of urban life. The
exhibition is curated by Dr. Andreas Broeckmann, artistic director of
the transmediale.

until 2 Feb 2006: »Gait Studies in Low Resolution« by Jim Campbell
For »Gait Studies in Low Resolution,« the American media artist Jim
Campbell developed a series of figurative sequences that show people
performing different movements in various situations. These visual
effects are enhanced by viewing them through a Perspex pane installed
at the southern exit of the Potsdamer Platz S-Bahn station: it causes
the pixels in the media facade to merge into a smooth, diffuse image.

3 Feb 2006: »33 Questions per Minute« by Rafael Lozano-Hemmer
True to its name, »33 Questions per Minute (33QPM), Relational
Architecture 5« by the Mexican-Canadian artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer
in collaboration with the programmer Conroy Badger, raises 33
questions per minute. The computer generates the questions itself
from a virtually limitless source of sentence fragments, combining
human curiosity with purely mechanical, often meaningless strings of
words. The software is capable of generating 55 billion questions in
German, English and Spanish.

4 Feb 2006: »Skala« by realities:united / John deKron
»Skala« a work by the art and architecture firm realities:united and
John deKron, super-imposes images from a personal reality on the
representative architecture found on Potsdamer Platz. »Skala«
explores how architectural media surfaces can enhance the design
possibilities in architecture and alter public space.

5 Feb 2006: »Sensor« by Carsten Nicolai
Carsten Nicolai developed his »Sensor« project in collaboration with
the software developer John deKron. »Sensor« is a visualization that
constantly redesigns itself based on environmental sensors installed
in the façade. The sensors monitor Potsdamer Platz and its visitor
traffic, registering the time of day, brightness, noise level and
noise over time. They are also set up to receive a number of infrared
signals. All these parameters feed into the interaction of light
gradients, generating a complex light modulation that turns the
façade into a »mirror image« of the city.

SPOTS light and media façade
The SPOTS light and media installation was commissioned by the HVB
Immobilien AG. It was designed and realized by architects Tim and Jan
Edler of realities:united. The idea for the installation originated
from Marc Fiedler at the Cafè Palermo Pubblicitá agency.
