1. Fly Utopia! Workspace

Der Fly Utopia! Workspace im Haus der Kulturen der Welt ist eines der
Kernelemente der transmediale.04, ein offenes Laboratorium zwischen
Praesentation und Partizipation. Von hier aus entwickeln die
eingeladenen Projektgruppen und Media-Labs Ideen und Aktionen, die
sich mit dem Programm des Festivals verweben. Das Publikum wird im
Workspace in einen intensiven kuenstlerischen Austausch mit den
eingeladenen Projektgruppen eingebunden.

Der Fly Utopia! Workspace ist im Foyer des Haus der Kulturen der Welt
(HKW) zu finden und taeglich von 10-22 Uhr geoeffnet
(John-Foster-Dulles-Allee 10, 10557 Berlin, http://www.hkw.de).
Der Eintritt ist frei.

2. Candida TV

Candida TV aus Rom wird einen lokalen Fernsehsender installieren und
eine umfangreiche Berichterstattung der Ereignisse im Haus der
Kulturen der Welt anbieten. Das im Workspace und anderen Orten des
Festivals aufgenommene und produzierte Filmmaterial wird in einem
mobilen Mini-Fernsehstudio bearbeitet und sendefertig gemacht. Die
Geschichten und Reportagen werden innerhalb des Hauses mit geringer
Leistung ausgestrahlt. Das Programm wird auf verschiedenen Monitoren,
die im Gebaeude verteilt sind, zu sehen sein.

Das Repertoire der Beitraege reicht von Interviews mit Kuenstlern und
Besuchern bis zu vorproduziertem Material aus dem AHA Archiv, das
Reportagen ueber Aktivismus in Italien enthaelt. Auch das Publikum
ist eingeladen, zum Programm beizutragen. Die Besucher werden dazu
ermutigt, eigene Videobaender und anderes Filmmaterial zur mobilen
Studioeinheit zu bringen, um es on-air zu praesentieren.

3. fluter.de

fluter.de fuehrt im Fly Utopia! Workspace der transmediale einen
fuenftaegigen Workshop fuer Jugendliche durch, in dem eine Gruppe von
Jugendlichen selbststaendig Video-Interviews mit Teilnehmern der
transmediale und Kurzbeitraege zu den verschiedenen Events fuer das
Internet produziert. Das Thema ist ’Utopia', und die Videos entstehen
aus dem Zusammenspiel des Publikums vor Ort und der Online-Community
auf fluter.de, die in einem speziellen Diskussionsforum Fragen und
Anregungen zum Thema “Fly Utopia!" posten koennen. Die Ergebnisse
werden zeitnah ins Internet gestellt, wo sich das
transmediale-Publikum mit den fluter.de Lesern austauschen kann. So
entsteht ein verschraenkter Informationskreislauf in dem sich beide
Orte in einer fortlaufenden Diskussion treffen.

fluter.de ist das Online-Jugendmagazin der Bundeszentrale fuer
politische Bildung (bpb) und erscheint zehnmal im Jahr mit
verschiedenen Themenschwerpunkten, im Februar 2004 aus Anlass der
transmediale mit dem Thema ’Utopien'.
http://www.fluter.de/transmediale - wird waehrend der transmediale
aktiv sein. Hier finden sich alle Videos, Beitraege und
Tagebucheintraege, die waehrend der transmediale generiert werden.

4. [mi2]

Das [mi2], Kurzform fuer Multimedia Institut Zagreb, wird
verschiedene Aktivitaeten und Demo Projekte aus dem net.culture club
[mama], aus der Produktionseinrichtung [mi2lab] und aus der
Internetpraesenz [mi2.hr] sowie die Fruechte des Inselabenteurs
Adriatic praesentieren. An der Burn-On-Demand Station des
[mi2]-eigenen EGOBOO.bits Labels fuer freie und nicht
urheberrechtlich eingeschraenkte Inhalte wird jeder Besucher einen
Eindruck der klanglichen und visuellen Entdeckungsreisen bekommen.
Musiker und Kuenstler, die auch im club transmediale auftreten,
werden ihre Programme und Samples frei zugaenglich machen.

Es wird Informationsmaterial bereit gestellt werden, um das Publikum
in die Veroeffentlichung von nicht urheberrechtlich eingeschraenkten
Inhalten und verwandte Themen einzufuehren. [mi2] wird Workshops zu
Fragen der Produktion, Publikation und Auffuehrung von freien Medien
und Texten durchfuehren. Diese Fragen sind Kernthemen der Arbeit von
[mi2] und einer ganzen Reihe von Communities, die sich inzwischen in
dessen Umfeld gebildet haben.

5. nomadic III germany, netherlands, india, marocco

nomadic III ist ein Projekt der digitalen nomadischen Forschung. Im
Workspace der transmediale.04 wird die Projektgruppe ihre
Forschungsreihe fortsetzen und moegliche digitale nomadische
Lebensweisen erproben. Die Forschungsarbeit basiert auf der
Vorstellung von Energie als dem zentralen nomadischen Element, das,
permanent transformierend, sich nicht in eine Gestalt fassen laesst.
nomadic III lotet die Grenzen und Potenziale kollektiver konnektiver
korrektiver Existenz und Mobilitaet aus und testet den Einsatz von
digitalen Medien in nomadischen Prozessen.

1. Fly Utopia! Workspace

The Fly Utopia! Workspace is one of the key elements of
transmediale.04: an open laboratory that oscillates between
presentation and participation. In this space, invited project groups
and medialabs will be developing ideas and actions of utopian
potential in connection with the festival's programme. The public is
invited to the Workspace to be part of an intense artistic exchange
with invited project groups and medialabs.

The Fly Utopia! Workspace is situated in House of World Culture's
lobby (HKW), open daily from 10-22 hrs (John-Foster-Dulles-Allee 10,
10557 Berlin, http://www.hkw.de).
Admission is free.

2. Candida TV

Candida TV from Rome will set up a local television broadcasting
network to provide extensive media coverage of events taking place
within the House of World Cultures. Footage shot and produced in the
transmediale Workspace and other festival locations will be edited
and post-produced in a mobile television studio. The stories and
reports will be broadcasted in the House of World Cultures using a
low power antenna. The programme will be received by several TV sets
located in various parts of the building.

The contributions to the broadcasted stream range from interviews of
artists and visitors to pre-produced material of the AHA archive that
includes reports on activism in Italy. Furthermore, the public will
be asked to contribute to the programme. Visitors will be encouraged
to bring their own videotapes and other footage to the mobile studio
unit in order to present it on the air.

3. fluter.de

fluter.de is hosting a five-day workshop at transmediale's Fly
Utopia! Workspace in which a group of young people, chosen from an
open call for applications, produces a series of short video reports
and interviews for the Internet. The theme is 'utopia' and the films
are generated in collaboration with the audience of the workspace and
fluter.de's online-community, using the site's new discussion forum
"Fly Utopia!". The recordings will be developed in the Fly Utopia!
Workspace with the live audience, while questions are taken from the
live chat at fluter.de. The final video will be immediately published
on the Internet where transmediale's audience will be able to engage
in a discussion with the fluter.de community. This creates an
intertwined discussion space where both places meet throughout the
ongoing production.

fluter.de is the online youth magazine of The Federal Agency for
Civic Education and is published ten times annually with specific
themes. In February 2004, in collaboration with the transmediale, the
theme is 'Utopia'.

fluter.de generated during the transmediale.

4. [mi2]

[mi2], abbreviation for Multimedia Institute in Zagreb, will present
diverse activities and demo projects from their public nexus -
net.culture club [mama], production facility [mi2lab], web grounds
[mi2.hr] and crops of the Adriatic island adventures. With a
Burn-On-Demand Station of [mi2]'s EGOBOO.bits free content publishing
label you will get a taste of sonic and visual explorations.
Musicians and artists also performing at club transmediale will
release their source code and samples to the public domain.
Information about the process of publishing free content and related
issues will be provided to the audience. Production, publication and
performance workshops that make use of free media/txt content will be
conducted. These questions are key elements in the work of [mi2] and
various other communities that have recently been formed around it.

5. nomadic III germany, netherlands, india, marocco

nomadic III is a project of digital nomadic research. The project
group will continue their research series and test various nomadic
ways of life in the transmediale.04 Workspace. The research is based
on the idea of energy being the central nomadic element and in
constant transformation as it eludes a definitive form. nomadic III
explores the potential and limits of collective, connective, and
corrective existence and mobility, and puts digital media in nomadic
process to the test.
